What Does It Mean to Find Jesus?

Finding Jesus doesn’t mean He was lost. It means we are the ones who have been wandering—spiritually, emotionally, or morally. To “find Jesus” is to realize our need for a Savior and to turn to Him for forgiveness, peace, and eternal life. It’s the most important decision anyone can ever make.

Luke 19:10 – “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

We all need saving. And Jesus came looking for us.

Why Do People Look for Jesus?

Many people begin searching for Jesus during hard times. Others feel something missing in their lives—like a deep emptiness that nothing else fills. Some hear about Jesus through a friend, a sermon, or reading the Bible, and something stirs in their heart.

Jeremiah 29:13 – “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Isaiah 55:6 – “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.”
  • They feel lost, broken, or alone
  • They want forgiveness from guilt or shame
  • They are hungry for meaning and truth
  • They are facing suffering or loss
  • They want to know what happens after death

How Do You Find Jesus?

Finding Jesus is not about joining a church or trying to be perfect. It’s about turning to Him with faith. The Bible says we are saved by grace through faith—not by our own works.

Ephesians 2:8–9 – “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
  1. Recognize Your Need
Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
  2. Believe in Jesus
John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
  3. Confess and Receive Him
Romans 10:9–10 – “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved...”
  4. Call on His Name
Romans 10:13 – “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

What Happens When You Find Jesus?

When you give your life to Jesus, everything changes—sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. Your soul is made new. You are forgiven. You are no longer alone.

Promise Scripture
You are forgiven 1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
You are a child of God John 1:12 – “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
You are made new 2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
You receive eternal life John 10:28 – “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
You have peace Romans 5:1 – “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
You are never alone Hebrews 13:5 – “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
You are filled with His Spirit Acts 2:38 – “Repent and be baptized... and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Real Life Example — A Changed Life

James grew up going to church, but never truly knew Jesus. In his twenties, after losing a job and battling depression, he remembered a verse his grandmother used to quote:

Matthew 11:28 – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

He cried out to Jesus one night, asking for help. That was the start of a new journey. Over time, his heart healed. He found peace in prayer and direction in God's Word.

Psalm 119:105 – “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

What Comes Next After Finding Jesus?

After you place your faith in Jesus, you begin a lifelong relationship with Him.

  • Read the Bible – Start with the Gospel of John
2 Timothy 3:16 – “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”
  • Pray every day – Talk to God like a friend
Philippians 4:6 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation... present your requests to God.”
  • Find a church – Be around others who follow Jesus
Hebrews 10:25 – “Not giving up meeting together... but encouraging one another.”
  • Get baptized – Show the world your new faith
Acts 22:16 – “And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.”
  • Share your story – Tell others what Jesus has done
Mark 5:19 – “Go home... and tell them how much the Lord has done for you.”

Jesus Is Still Seeking You

Even if you’ve run from God or feel unworthy, Jesus is still calling. He told a story in Luke 15 about a shepherd who leaves 99 sheep to go after the one who’s lost. That’s His heart—He came to find you.

Luke 15:4 – “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one... Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine... and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?”
Revelation 3:20 – “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
