When people talk about God, they often picture a kind, wise, and loving figure sitting on a throne in heaven. While this image isn't wrong, it’s only part of the story. To get the full picture of who God really is, we must turn to the Bible. A Biblically accurate God is much deeper, more powerful, and more awe-inspiring than we sometimes imagine.

God Is Holy
The Bible says over and over that God is holy. That means He is pure, perfect, and completely set apart from sin.
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” — Isaiah 6:3
Even the angels cover their faces in His presence. God’s holiness also means He cannot tolerate evil.
“But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’” — 1 Peter 1:15-16
“Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing.” — Habakkuk 1:13
God Is Just
God is fair. He always does what is right, and He doesn’t ignore sin.
“The Lord is known by his acts of justice; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands.” — Psalm 9:16
“He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.” — Deuteronomy 32:4
“For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.” — Ecclesiastes 12:14
This justice is part of what makes Him trustworthy. He always judges rightly.
God Is Loving
Though God is holy and just, His love is one of His most famous qualities. But His love is not weak—it is bold, deep, and life-changing.
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” — 1 John 4:8
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
“The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.” — Psalm 103:8
His love reaches every person, no matter what they’ve done.
God Is Powerful
God’s power is unmatched. He spoke the universe into being and still holds it together.
“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” — Jeremiah 32:17
“By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.” — Psalm 33:6
“Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.” — Psalm 147:5

God Is Eternal
God has no beginning and no end. He exists outside of time.
“Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” — Psalm 90:2
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” — Revelation 1:8
He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
God Is All-Knowing
Nothing surprises God. He knows every thought, every plan, and every outcome.
“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.” — Psalm 139:1-2
“Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.” — Psalm 147:5
God Is Unchanging
God never changes. His promises remain forever.
“I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.” — Malachi 3:6
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” — Hebrews 13:8

God Is Merciful
Even though He is holy and just, God gives mercy to those who seek Him.
