Psalm 107:1 is a powerful reminder to pause and give thanks to God. This verse speaks of God's never-ending love and faithful goodness. It is an invitation to worship and a call to remember all that God has done.

"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever." — Psalm 107:1 (NIV)

God's Goodness Never Changes

The Bible describes God as good over and over again. He is not just sometimes good or good to certain people—He is always good. Even when life is hard, God's character stays the same.

When we look at Psalm 107, we see a pattern of people in trouble calling out to the Lord, and He rescues them every time. This shows His goodness is not based on our actions but on His nature.

Psalm 34:8 – “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.”
Nahum 1:7 – “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.”
James 1:17 – “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
Exodus 34:6 – “And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, ‘The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.’”

His Love Lasts Forever

The second part of Psalm 107:1 tells us that God's love is not temporary. Human love can fail or fade, but God's love never ends. The word "endures" means it keeps going—day after day, year after year, and into eternity.

This kind of love is called “steadfast love” in some Bible versions. It means loyal, faithful, and unshakable. No matter how far we wander, God’s love draws us back.

Lamentations 3:22-23 – “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
Psalm 100:5 – “For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.”
Romans 8:38-39 – “For I am convinced that neither death nor life… nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Isaiah 54:10 – “‘Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken…’ says the Lord.”

A Pattern of Thanksgiving

Psalm 107 repeats a phrase that urges people to thank God for His love:

Psalm 107:8 – “Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for mankind.”

This phrase is echoed in verses 15, 21, and 31. It’s a call to reflect on specific times God has rescued or blessed us. Whether it was protection during danger, healing in sickness, or guidance in confusion—thankfulness should be our response.

Verse Situation God’s Response
Psalm 107:4–9 Wanderers in desert He led them to a city
Psalm 107:10–16 Prisoners in darkness He broke their chains
Psalm 107:17–22 Fools in suffering He sent His word and healed them
Psalm 107:23–32 Sailors in storm He stilled the storm and brought peace

Psalm 103:2-5 – “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit…”
Deuteronomy 8:10 – “When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land He has given you.”
1 Chronicles 16:34 – “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”

A Personal Reminder

Psalm 107:1 isn't just for a worship service or a holiday. It’s meant for everyday life. When you wake up, when you eat a meal, when you lie down at night—each moment is a chance to thank God.

Even when things go wrong, we can say, “Lord, thank You that You are still good, and Your love still lasts.”

Philippians 4:6 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Psalm 92:1-2 – “It is good to praise the Lord and make music to Your name… to proclaim Your love in the morning and Your faithfulness at night.”

How to Practice Gratitude to God

Here are some simple ways to live out Psalm 107:1 daily:

  • Write a gratitude journal – List three things each day you're thankful for.
  • Pray with thanksgiving – Start prayer by thanking God before asking for anything.
  • Sing praise songs – Worship helps turn your heart toward God’s goodness.
  • Share your testimony – Tell others how God has helped you.

Hebrews 13:15 – “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess His name.”
Colossians 3:15 – “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts… And be thankful.”

Other Scriptures on Giving Thanks

The Bible is full of calls to be thankful in every season. Gratitude is not just a good attitude—it’s a form of worship.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 – “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Colossians 3:17 – “And whatever you do… do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
Psalm 118:1 – “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”
Ephesians 5:20 – “Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
