The story of Noah and the Ark is one of the most known events in Scripture. It shows God’s justice and His care. It also shows real faith in action. Noah trusted God when no one else did. His life points to hope and rescue.
1. Noah Lived in a Corrupt World
Genesis says people turned from God. Violence filled the earth. Noah stood out because he walked with God.
“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” (Genesis 6:8)| Noah | His Generation |
|---|---|
| Walked with God | Turned from God |
| Obeyed | Rejected God’s ways |
| Blessed | Faced judgment |
2. Noah Was Righteous Because of His Faith
Noah was not perfect. He trusted God. Faith shaped his choices and his life.
“Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations.” (Genesis 6:9)3. God Gave Detailed Plans for the Ark
The Ark was not a small boat. It was huge. God gave exact sizes and directions.
“Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.” (Genesis 6:14)“And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.” (Genesis 6:15)| Feature | Size (Approximate) |
|---|---|
| Length | 450 ft |
| Width | 75 ft |
| Height | 45 ft |
4. Noah Worked for Many Years
Noah built the Ark during a time when people mocked him. The Bible does not say the exact number of years, but it was long enough to show strong faith.
“Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.” (Genesis 6:22)5. Animals Came to Noah
Noah did not search for each animal. God brought them to him. This shows God’s power and order.
“There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.” (Genesis 7:9)- Noah and his family
- Clean animals (seven pairs)
- Unclean animals (one pair)
- Birds (seven pairs)
6. The Flood Lasted Over a Year
People often think it lasted only 40 days. It rained that long, but Noah stayed in the Ark more than a year as the waters slowly went down.
“And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.” (Genesis 7:24)7. The Ark Came to Rest on the Mountains of Ararat
The landing place is noted in Scripture, though the exact mountain is not known. This shows the flood was real and tied to a real place.
“And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.” (Genesis 8:4)8. Noah Sent Out a Raven and a Dove
These birds helped Noah know the waters were going down. The dove returned with an olive leaf. This was a sign of new life and peace after judgment.
“And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.” (Genesis 8:11)| Bird | Purpose | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Raven | Test conditions | Went to and fro |
| Dove | Look for dry land | Returned with leaf |
9. God Made a Covenant with Noah
After the flood, God blessed Noah and made a promise that covered all life. God promised never to destroy the earth with a flood again.
“And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.” (Genesis 9:11)10. The Rainbow Became the Sign of God’s Promise
God used the rainbow as a clear sign of His grace and His promise. Each time we see a rainbow, we can remember that God keeps His word.
“I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.” (Genesis 9:13)- God remembers His promise
